                                        My Passion is Fabric!

Yes I am proud to be a Fabric-aholic! My stash reproduces at will. My poor Qubby (Quilting Hubby) just shakes his head. I've had a needle in my hand most of my life and a Teddy Bear Artist prior to the girls starting middle school. I found quilting when my Qubby and I married. His dowry to me was three Amish quilts from the 20's & 30's. What treasures! The thought of making points match perfectly terrified me, but appliqué opened up an entire new facet of my life! I could put my projects in a plastic zippy bag and sew while waiting for classes, practices and rehearsals to end.

I began teaching hand appliqué several years ago at the Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Store located in Suffern NY. As the requests for different types of hand work classes increased, Penny Rug Appliqué, Broderie Perse, Hawaiian and Sashiko Quilting were added. I've taken several ribbons for my jackets, appliqué designs, Sashiko quilting and button hole appliqué in wool. Aside from my love of fabric, I've been a Interior Decorative Artist since 1995. I have several restaurants and commercial buildings on my resume along with a Madison Ave Bridal Studio and many residential homes.

You never know when "Life" will throw you a curve and in November of 2004, I was diagnosed with a Brain Tumor. Thankfully it was benign and I was very fortunate to have an amazing Surgeon with a superb team remove it in 2005. If I say it altered my perspective on life, I would be understating the obvious. It certainly puts a new spin on the old phrase "There is no time like the present."

In August of 2005, I was asked by a representative of the Museum of Natural History, New York City to create a baby quilt for their Bio-Diversity Exhibit Auction. The quilt was to be made of all organic materials and as much hand work as feasible. I asked four fellow Brownstone Quilter's Guild members to help out. I designed and hand appliquéd "Dolphin Adventure" and then passed it to Dori Monica for the quilting design and hand quilting. Hand quilting continued with Jackie and finished with Maureen. Jan added the binding and back to me for the sleeve and label. It sold at auction in September of 2005.

As Quilters we set out on a certain path and sometimes find the journey takes many unexpected twists and turns. Usually it's my rotary cutter that takes the unexpected twist and turn, but let's not go there!  For me, Life is about the journey. I find some of my best work started as out one idea and for some reason took on a life of it's own and still other times the dumpster is the best home I can think of.

I may not finish every project but I've decided
"She who learns the most WINS!"

For you I have Quilty Smiles...Lacey
