My Wisteria Kamon Quilt in Asian Fabrics Magazine

  • Posted on January 11, 2010 at 11:58 am

WOW!  Just found out my Wisteria Kamon Quilt from the Simply Medallions pattern will be in this issue of Asian Fabrics Magazine!

I stopped by the Kona Bay Booth at International Quilt Market in October 2009 and they were kind enough to let me snap a picture of  the quilt.

Here’s Vicki and Kristina.  Don’t they look fabulous?

Oh, I can’t forget Doug, no he’s not a lady and he’s not in this picture but he is a wonderful guy, Blogger and Kona Bay’s “Fearless Leader”.  Doug’s usually up for a picture but he was engaged in a conversation when I stopped by.

I just love working with gorgeous Kona Bay fabrics!  The mineral green waterfall fabric is from the Emperor’s Collection and it’s one of my many favorite Kona Bay fabrics.  The applique design is my personal version of a Wisteria Kamon, or heraldry crest.

Kamon or more commonly known as “Mon” are displayed on kimono and haori to depict family loyalties or clan associations.  The Wisteria Vine has many symbolic meanings but my two favorite are Beauty & Endurance.  We have Wisteria in our backyard.  It is the most insidious vine and yet the most beautiful when in bloom.  The more I prune the vine & roots, the more beautiful it is the next year.

The Simply Medallions Pattern is published by QuiltWoman.com and also includes the Fleur-de-lis Scroll design and Meandering Heart design.  The 3 different applique designs are included so that you can choose the style that best suites your fabrics.

It truly is…All About the Fabric!

Learing to use the Handi-Quilter at Quilter’s Crossing

Each of us has our own set of special gifts!

Machine quilting is not one of my gifts at this point and I’m OK with that!  I truly love the simplicity of hand quilting or Sashiko!

Linda Hahn, TWO COUNTRY QUILTERS and him quilts most of my quilts on her longarm, she does it so well!

BUT…with time being what it is,

I have begun to try my hand at machine quilting myself.

Colleen Nunes of Quilter’s Crossing is kind enough to help me

[OK...actually she does the work- she's the Queen Bee]

Here’s a photo of the Cottage Rose quilt from Easy Sew with Lacey & Ro after it just came off the Handi-Quilter.  Colleen has this amazing computerized attachment [HP Pro-Stitcher] that takes all the guesswork out of quilting and let’s you visit with your friends while the machine does all the work!

I just love the Warwick Valley Quilters!

  • Posted on July 26, 2009 at 10:18 am

Recently a terrific group of gals from the Warwick Valley Quilt Guild graciously offered to test a couple new patterns for me!  Barbara Berdy was the Ring Master with Ellen Van Howling & Audrey Bleier as her fabulous assistants.  These wonderful ladies are 3 of my trusty testers and hosts of this fabulous day!

The patterns featured 4 sizes of quilts in each pattern so they actually tested 8 patterns for me!  What an undertaking, two would have been fine but I wanted to offer several ways to set the blocks in different sizes and they rose to my challenge and I can’t thank them enough!

Here’s some pictures for eye candy!

What an Honor!

Mark Lipinski is one of those amazingly talented individuals that also had the unique ability to make us laugh at ourselves and see the bright & hysterical spot in an otherwise dreary situation!

Can I say I also love his fabric!

Califon

Sizzling Circle Table Runner

Sizzling Circle Table Runner

When I was searching for the right fabric to make the table runner for the Sizzling Circles book, I knew Mark’s Califon fabric by Northcott would be perfect!  Blue & Yellow is one of the all time favorite kitchen combo colors and the crisp tones in the collection were exactly what I needed!  I’m not a blue person but this fabric line was perfect!

Let me express my complete and utter surprise when I found my Sizzling Circle book published by Nancy Dill www.QuiltWoman.com listed on Mark’s latest blog posting!

WOW!  What an Honor!  Thanks!

I was thrilled to have his fabric in the book and now I’m truly honored that he mentioned it in his blog!

I signed up recently for QNNtv after previewing his up and coming show “Quilting Out Loud” with Jodie Davis.  It looks like it will be an exciting and informative take on quilting!

Not a “Snoozer” by any sense of the imagination!

Back to the Studio to meet a couple more deadlines!

Spring International Quilt Market!

  • Posted on May 22, 2009 at 7:53 am

It’s always a mad dash to the finish line the weeks leading up to International Quilt Market!

Once I arrived there was a School House along with Sample Spree where we debuted “Sizzling Circles” & the “Circles & More Ruler” on Thursday and appointments to keep Friday & Saturday but then it’s catch up time with old friends and the opportunity to meet new ones!

Nancy & I at Sample Spree

Nancy & I at Sample Spree

This was my first time at Market with QuiltWoman.com and I so thoroughly enjoyed myself meeting Nancy’s wonderful staff Carol & Lorraine along with Jen, Cary and seeing Barb again! Part of me wishes I lived in the Rochester NY area.  Other than my aversion to too much snow, I’d be be a happy quilter hanging out with these ladies.  I must say though, I would miss the girls of Double Trouble Studios - Linda & Merry who get me into way too much fun trouble!

We even adopted a wayward kindred spirit, Kelly Jackson from www.IHaveA-Notion.com and had a late night tour of Pittsburgh searching the parking lots for a Van.  She’s a lovely statuesque gal who reminds me of my eldest 6′2″ daughter.  Tall and fabulous!  Just love her!

Kelly & Friends - She loves lime green too!

Kelly & Friends - She loves lime green too!

I connected with some old friends and met some new!   With the Large-Scale fabrics I’m working with, I was thrilled to meet Ro Gregg from Northcott!  I just love Ro’s sense of gorgeous over-sized florals and prints!  One of my hats is a Color Consultant for Home Dec Designers with hard color matches.  There was not one fabric of Ro’s collections that I didn’t love and could live in!  [OK I was drooling!]  Her colorways are comfortable to “live with” and many of the colors could be painted on the walls perfectly!  That’s the hardest part for crossing over into Home Dec.

Dolores from Blank Quilting showed me some scrumptious new fabrics coming out and I definitely see some “I Spy” Sizzling Circles & large-scale fabric quilts in my future!

As always, Vicki Dar from Kona Bay Fabrics had me thrilled with a few of the new lines!  I’ve been a Kona Bay Girl for a long time and will always be one!  Between Wearables, Accessories and Quilts, the fabrics always give me great inspiration with fabulous color ways to work with!  Who could ask for more?  Gorgeous fabric from a gorgeous lady!  I’m there!

The Clover Booth & Kreinik Thread Booth each got 5 Yummies for new & fun toys and I was eyeing a BabyLock Quilter’s Choice Pro!  Just love the extended bed!

I’d better get back to work!  I’ll post more shortly!

Quilting on the Line

  • Posted on May 9, 2009 at 6:37 am

My father’s family is Mayflower and most of my relatives are buried within 15 miles of each other up north.  I am the only one born just south of the Mason Dixon Line by accident.  I always wondered where the Mason Dixon Line actually was until now!

I recently had the greatest pleasure of sharing my “Jackets That Fit Your Style” lecture with the members of the “Quilting on the Line” Quilt Guild in Delta PA and to my great surprise, drove on the Mason Dixon Line to get there!

It was a bit overcast while I was traveling on the highway but when I left the interstate to drive into Maryland and back north to PA,  the scenery was intoxicating!  I drove through Port Deposit a charmingly quaint town that then led me through the lovely sprawling fields and pastures of Maryland & Pennsylvania.

I met my hostess and Program Chair Ruth Cheslock at a local restaurant and I just knew I’d adore her!  [She has my mother's name]  The ladies of “Quilting on the Line” are such a delightful and industrious group with many service projects and of course my favorite part of the meeting, Show & Tell was just wonderful!

Ruth graciously housed me and I got to meet her artistic award winning husband at their home on the river.  What a glorious place to live!  Bless her heart, she has a small studio but boy Ruth is organized!  I could only hope to get to that point one day!  My studio spans 2 floors with quilting and fashion fabrics along with needlework supplies.  Keeps me in shape running the steps!

They have a Quilt Show coming up November 3, 2009.  Here’s a picture of their raffle quilt.  Just beautiful! There’s a scrumptious amount of hand applique and pieced work on the quilt!  5 Yummies for the diversity of design!

This joint venture between Nancy Dill and myself has been a wonderful experience for me! She understood my thoughts of a smaller book that could be used for several classes where we could use & not lose those wonderful larger scaled fabrics.  Nancy is definitely the “Go To Gal”!

My Mantra:  “It’s All About the Fabric!”

A “special thank you” to my contributors!  You helped the circles sizzle!

The Engaging Ladies & Gent of the Milford Valley Quilters Guild

  • Posted on April 28, 2009 at 6:33 am

I was recently invited to share my “It’s All About the Fabric” lecture with the Milford Valley Quilters Guild.  What an engaging group of Ladies and a Gent!  I thoroughly enjoyed my visit!  The Program Chair, Patti Shreiner was a lovely hostess!

When my lecture time was up, I was asked to continue for a few more minutes and we had a lively question & answer session.  This is one of my favorite parts of the lecture!  I hope there will be a couple “Use It & Not Lose It” Large-Scale fabric converts now!

I was treated to a sneak preview of several of their 20th Anniversary Quilts that will be displayed at their upcoming quilt show July 11th & 12th 2009.  There is one quilt commemorating each of their 20 years and the artistic interpretations were inspiring!

I returned for a workshop the following Saturday and the charming ladies were quite enthusiastic with questions regarding how to up-size Large-Scale fabric quilts.  I wholeheartedly believe that a workshop is just the beginning of a quilt.  I encourage starting with a pattern & following your own path.  I share techniques and time saving tips but the design should be their own!

Below are a few pictures of the ladies auditioning their fabrics!
