Once in a while you find a kindred soul and Kelly Jackson of I Have a Notion is just that person. A chance meeting placed me Kelly’s world of merriment & mayhem! You never know what she has in store for you next but whatever it is, you’ll walk away with a smile. She has the uncanny nack of getting people to have some fun and enjoy our love of quilting in a different light.

She swears she’ll never be convicted of a quilt related crime by a jury of her peers, since her peers are the ones that receive the spoils of her adventures! I think she’s right!

Here she is at the Aurifil Booth during Quilts, Inc. International Spring Market 2010 acquiring items for her next Give-Away. I always wondered why she loves baggy clothes! The plot thickens as she next acquires the Ultra Collection by Mark Lipinski…

I may just use her use of thread cones the next time I need to wear a gown!

It’s always a mad dash to the finish line in getting ready for International Quilt Market sponsored by Quilts, Inc. This year it was a little more crazy than usual! A few last minute requests came in for quilt designs & patterns, so if you’re wondering where did I go? The answer is…Nowhere!

I lived between floors, migrating from the computer room to the studio with a quick trip each week to one of my longarm quilter’s studio Lorraine Freed of Legacy Quilting. So many thanks go to Lorraine for helping me out with the multiple quilts and pattern testings that needed to be done. She wasn’t able to attend but next time I’m hoping to bring her with me!

The internet keeps us in contact but it’s always a pleasure to meet friends face to face for a hug & a laugh!

Happy 1st Anniversary Kelly… I Have A Notion is turning 1 year old!

Happy Easter! Free Tea Cup Pin Cushion Pattern

This is one of my favorite Thank you or Thinking of You gifts to make!

It’s perfect for a Quilter and even a Non-Quilter. It can be placed by a sewing chair or on a dresser to hold a favorite brooch.

Tea Cup Pin Cushion

Tea Cup Pin Cushion

Supply List:

(1) Lovely Tea Cup & Saucer

(1) 3″ Styrofoam ball

12″ square of matching fabric

12″ square of thin batting

1/2 yard of wired ribbon

1/2 yard of braid or fringe trim

(1) 3-4″ tassel

Hot glue gun & glue

Rubber band

Step 1:

Place your fabric wrong side up on a flat surface and layer the batting in the center. Place the Styrofoam ball in the center and gather up the loose edges into a tail, smoothing out any large pleats. Wrap the tail with the rubber band and trim to 2 inches.

Step 2:

Run a line of hot glue around the edge of the teacup about 1/2″ below the edge. Position the fabric wrapped ball in the center of the teacup and press firmly. Next, glue the braid to the edge of the tea cup so that it fills the gap between the teacup and the fabric ball. Use pins to temporarily hold the braid in place as you glue & trim the excess braid for a snug fit. Gently remove one pin at a time.

Step 3:

Gather up one edge of the wire ribbon to fit snugly between the bottom of the teacup and the saucer. Again, glue in place. Add the tassel to the handle of the teacup and you’re done!

I usually place a few color coordinated pins on top and sometimes

a piece of lace or silk flower. Enjoy!

After many months of fussing & fretting, my website is fully operational again. I’m so pleased using Windows 7 but I did have compatibility issues with older versions of software and that took time & a learning curve to get things fixed.

Thanks for your patience as I muddled through this process!

I’m so utterly pleased to be working with Fabric Designer, Ro Gregg, Northcott Silk and Patti Carey, Designer & Marketing Director of Northcott Silk!

I know I’ve said it before, but I just love Ro’s classic elegant designs! They blend beautifully in my home and the compliments on my decorating style are endless! Thanks Ro! You make me wonderful! Also, Northcott fabric gives us a generous 43″ of fabric to work with and I love how the fabric feels in my hand when I’m hand appliqueing!

I have 4 new quilt designs out that will be available shortly at www.QuiltWoman.com using Northcott fabrics and a few more will be available for Spring Market 2010.

Snap Backpacks At Betty’s Quilting Etc

It’s always a pleasure when students or shops send me photos of classes and I love sharing the pictures even more!!

Yesterday I received a wonderful photo from Betty’s Quilting Etc. of Sarah & Melissa showing off their fabulous Snap Backpacks from a class!

Look at those colors! Yum! There’s nothing like a fun Backpack to wear to the next show that will hold all your necessities, 2 bottles of water and has enough room for the “Find of the Day”!

The Snap Backpack is part of the Snap Collection of patterns available through www.QuiltWoman.com. All the patterns/bags use an interchangeable tubular frame.

With [1] frame you can have a Snap Backpack for day and a Snap Bag for the evening. Tired of the fabric or need to change the color to match your outfit? Unscrew the fame and slide a new bag on.

It’s that simple!

Here’s another photo I received from a Suzey. She decided to make everyone a purse for Christmas in their own special fabric! Now all she has to do is make the bag portion and the recipient can change to which ever fabric she likes! It’s a gift that keeps on giving!

And what a surprise!!!!!

Nancy [ Ms. Power House Extraordinarie] is embarking on a new line for products at QuiltWoman and Judy, one of Nancy’s Graphic Designers put these together! How Surreal!

It’s been such a pleasure being part of the QuiltWoman family of Designers! Lovely people tend to gravitate towards each other and I’ve meet so many lovely ladies through QuiltWoman whom I now consider friends! Thank you!
